collaboration with Karen Fiorito
hand silk screened street posters 16 x 20
hand pasted on the streets
These pieces were inspired by the images of beautiful, bloodied, female protestors on the streets of Tehran, which were flooding onto social media in 2009. Despite the Iranian government’s media blackout, protestors shared their images directly with the rest of the world via their cell phones, as they clashed with their government’s violent police. Gender oppression and the politics of being pretty, and rebellion, courage, vulnerability and violence all gave rise to Clark’s slogan PRETTY REVOLUTIONARY. Clark wanted the works displayed back on city streets, specifically in downtown Los Angeles’ flourishing political street art and graffiti scene. She approached downtown political street artist and master printer Karen Fiorito (aka Little Fury) about collaborating. Together they selected the images and poster layout. Karen printed the pieces, and together they pasted them in the middle of the night throughout Los Angeles.
