The artist calls these two pieces performance relics. Both examine gender roles and sexual stereotypes. Both represent the artist’s severe physical limitations at the time they were made, as well as her escape into contrasting realms of gender ideals and gender theory. Within them Clark frames, as a performance, her real life condition of being homebound and seriously physically debilitated, due to the diseases Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Environmental Illness.
