collaboration with Karen Fiorito
hand silk screened street posters 16 x 20
hand pasted on the streets
2009
These pieces were inspired by images that were flooding onto social media in 2009 of beautiful and bloodied Iranian women, protesting on the streets of Tehran. Despite the Iranian government’s media blackout, protestors shared their images directly with the rest of the world via their cell phones while clashing with their government’s violent police. Gender oppression, courage juxtaposed with vulnerability, the politics of being pretty, and the politics of being rebellious all gave rise to Clark’s slogan PRETTY REVOLUTIONARY. Clark wanted the works displayed back on city streets, so she approached political street artist and master printer Karen Fiorito (aka Little Fury) about collaborating. Together they created the works which Karen hand printed, and together they pasted them on the streets of Los Angeles within the flourishing political street art neighborhoods of downtown L.A., as well as other neighborhoods in L.A.
