This live performance was performed at the 2016 Phoenix ritual birthday event for feminist surrealist, performance artist, mystic and Tantric author Penny Slinger, at her Goddess Temple in Boulder Creek, CA
Clark’s piece worked in conjunction with the event’s other rituals which were being conducted in the main hall of the temple. These included an audience participatory fire ceremony where everyone wrote on two separate pieces of red paper, things which they, like the Phoenix, sought to let die and subsequent qualities which they choose for their rebirth. Each person then one by one, burned these in the hearth of the temple. Clark and her lotus seat, in the next room, were both ritually adorned with red, yellow and orange flowers, and orange feathers, and draped in orange and gold fabrics. When individuals choose to sit in front of the lotus seat, Clark used her skills of intuition to continue their internal processes. She gave death/rebirth and rising from the ashes themed intuitive readings. She completed each session by administering a flower essence vibrational medicine remedy, which she had specially prepared days before, from the pharmacopeia at Olala Farms, in Nevada City, CA. It was comprised of 4 flower essences including, Incense Cedar for endings and new beginnings; Dutchman’s Pipe for change; Manzanita to clear fears; and Ponderosa Pine for a deep cleansing of past events, as well as cleansing guilt, shame, criticism and judgement.
